Short-Term Missions Resources
For Groups of 15:
Jesus on Leadership: Discovering the Secret of Servant Leadership, C. Gene Wilkes
What to expect: In this book, Wilkes challenges his reader to learn how to wait for God to place you in the
right leadership position. The danger is trying to get ahead of God, who desires for you to follow his
timing and his control. He also emphasizes the importance of taking risks, cultivating a servant-heart,
and working as a team to fulfill a particular mission. This book fits well into the theme of Discovering the
Mystery as it helps readers wrestle with how to apply the life and ministry of Jesus to what God desires
for us to be and do today.
The Walk: A Journey with God, Design for Discipleship 2.0 Bible Study Series
What to expect: A study on how to apply one’s faith and live for Christ with passion and intensity. Choose
from a number of lessons on topics ranging from what it means to walk with Christ, why believers
encounter difficulty, common misbeliefs that mess you up, and how to stand up for what you believe.
Published for teens by Positive Action for Christ.
Enjoy the Silence, Maggie and Duffy Robbins
What to expect: If you want to help your participants move into a deeper reading of scripture and prayer,
this Lectio Divina (“divine reading”) based book is for you. In the words of its authors, “the purpose of
this book is to invite you into the presence of God, to help you find a practical way to listen and speak to
the One who desperately wants a deeper relationship with you.” In it are 50 different readings that will,
on a very down to earth and practical way, help participants discover the Mystery of God’s Word to them.
Published for youth by Zondervan.
The Will of God as a Way of Life, Jerry Sittser
What to expect: This excellent college-level book will help participants grapple with God’s plan for their
lives (from a reformed perspective). Sittser helps the reader understand that God’s desire for us, as laid
out in Scripture, has infinitely more to do with who we are (developing our character) than what
decisions we must make for the future. This book complements the theme Discovering the Mystery by
encouraging Christ-likeness (the result of Christ in us) and by reassuring us that God delights in our
freedom of decision-making when we entrust our lives to Him.
